The 10 Best Electric Shavers for 2022 – Reviews & Buyer’s Guide

For those like to have that accurate grooming.

electric shaverOnly a few decades ago, desiring a close shave meant taking a trip to the barbershop.

Here, the barber would use a straight razor to give you a smooth face free of stubble.

Today, barbershops are few and far between, leaving this task in the hands of those who desire to have it.

Thankfully, a smooth shave is easier to achieve than it was in previous decades. With the invention of electric razors and shavers, as well as the start of the self-care movement, shaving has transformed into a mundane, everyday task for many men around America.

This being said, shopping for the best electric shaver for yourself can be daunting, as store shelves are chalked full of different brands, styles, and varieties of shavers.

So, how do you decide on just one? Are there any that reign supreme? In the next portion of this article, youā€™ll find in-depth reviews for the 10 best electric shavers to help you make a choice that you wonā€™t regret.
Who needs an electric shaver?
norelco shaverEvery man needs to shave, so they need a shaver.

And then everyone who needs a quick and safe shave without any cuts and blood needs an electric shaver.

Seriously, electric shavers are so convenient overall.

They come with multiple shaving options and also the option to give the closest shave possible.

Even if you are highly satisfied with your old razor then also we will advise you to get an electric shaver.

As compared to a shaver, an electric razor is fast and is much safer to use. There are very low chances of any cuts or rashes with an electric shaver.

Electric shavers come in two types: Foil shavers and Rotatory shavers.

Foil shavers come with a blade covering foil while the rotatory shaver comes with a series of rotating blades.

Foil razor, since it comes with a straight blade offers a really close shave, the rotatory on the other hand offers a less close shave. But both are different products that can be desired users with different shaving preferences.

How we picked and tested

Electric shaver on white

Doing this review has been really exciting for all the boys on our team.

But that was after we had already picked the products that we were going to review.

Since we ourselves are heavy users of shavers we were well aware of some of the most popular brands in the market.

But still, to be sure that we are not missing any popular brand in the market, we did market research on what other publications are recommending.

Most of the other publications in the market are recommending electric shavers from the Braun series and the Panasonic arc series.

We also did research on different eCommerce websites like Amazon and eBay to check what the users are preferring over there.

In total, we choose around 15 shavers and narrowed down the list to 10.

Among the 10 best shavers mentioned on this list, 6 are foil shaver, 3 are electric shavers, and one of them is a one blade shaver from Panasonic.

Then we did the testing on a few of the major points like the battery range, the speed of the shaver, and if the shaver supports wet/dry usage.

Only two of the shavers on our list are not waterproof and every shaver provides a battery range of 40 hours or above.

1. Braun Series 7 – Best overall Electric Shaver

Braun Series 7 Electric Shaver for Men 7893s, Wet & Dry, Integrated Precision Trimmer, Rechargeable and Cordless Razor, with Travel Case - Silver The Braun Series 7 is the predecessor to the Series 9 line.

Out of all of Braunā€™s shavers, the Series 7 is the most commonly recommended model due to its sheer popularity as well as its impressive features.

It comes at a hefty cost, but the majority of users agree that itā€™s well worth the price.

It is a 100% waterproof shaver that offers 40000 cuts per minute.

Specifications
  • 40,000 cross-cutting actions per minute.
  • Auto Sense technology.
  • 8 directional shaver head.
  • ActiveLift technology.
  • 10,000 micro-vibrations a minute.
  • 5 shaving modes.

Our In-Depth Review:

The Braun Series 7 790cc-4 is a high performing, electric shaver that comes at a high cost. It features four synchronized shaving elements and five different shaving modes, giving it the ability to give even the densest of facial hair a clean shave.

Its MSRP sits on the higher end of the scale, but itā€™s well worth the investment if youā€™re looking to find an at-home shaver with the most advanced shaving technology.

If spending a decent amount on a razor is within your means, the Braun Series 7 is a solid choice. Customers continually praise this shaver for its impressive performance, with some claiming that its price isnā€™t that expensive when you consider how well it works and what it offers. Essentially, itā€™s value surpasses its retail cost.

Part of what makes this razor so effective is its highly adaptive motor. The motor automatically adjusts its power output based on the density of the beard itā€™s being used on. This is great for those who have particularly strong hair, even if it is sparse.

It has various personalization settings that let users choose from five shaving modes, while its shaving head flexes in eight directions to get every inch of skin without causing any annoying red bumps or skin irritation.

It also uses ActiveLift technology that lifts and cuts hairs that lay flat against the skin, along with a handy pop-up trimmer for achieving precise detailing of the sideburns and delicate areas.

This razor runs off of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and provides up to 50 minutes of shaving time per charge, letting users get a full shave (or two) out of a single charge. Charging takes only one hour.

It has status battery life indicators, charging status indicators, and hygiene status notifications that tell users when to clean the razor for optimal performance. Youā€™ll also know when itā€™s time to replace the shaverā€™s foils thanks to a handy indication feature.

The razor is waterproof and safe for use in the shower or bathtub and is compatible with water, shaving foam, or shaving gel. You can also shave dry if you choose – whichever you prefer.

When it comes to cleaning, the job is easy. It can be rinsed under running water after each use and more thoroughly cleaned once a week using the included cleaning brush, cleaning solution, and Clean&Charge station. Alternatively, once the cleaning solution runs out, many satisfied customers opt to clean the screen and blades with rubbing alcohol.

In addition to these accessories, it also comes with a charging cord and a pouch designed for travel and storage.

Luckily, if you travel internationally with your shaver, it has worldwide voltage adaptation, however, it doesnā€™t have a travel lock to protect it from unintentionally powering up during transport, so this needs to be carefully monitored. The only other commonly reported downside is that some users find the shaver to be a notch or two louder than many other shavers on the market.

Pros

  • Features worldwide voltage adaption for use during travel.
  • It features a variety of handy indicators that are useful for the maintenance and cleanliness of the shaver.
  • Advanced technologies that allow for smooth, precise shaves.
  • Five shaving modes that are ideal for all types of skin.

Cons

  • Lacks a travel lock for secure transport.
  • Shaver charge station takes up a great deal of counter space.

Conclusion:

Series 7 has a relatively steep price point but boasts a number of great benefits that make it a worthwhile investment. The unique swiveling shaver head and included technologies ensure a close shave every time. If you have extra cash and a lack of time to shave, this is an awesome option.

2. Panasonic Arc5 – With 70000 Cross cutting per minutes

Panasonic Electric Shaver and Trimmer for Men, ES-LV95-S ARC5, Wet/Dry with 5 Blades and Flexible Pivoting Head, Includes Premium Automatic Clean & Charge Station The Panasonic Arc5Ā  is a foil razor with angled blades and a five-blade shaving system.

It has won various awards.

Following the Arc4, it is the next best model from Panasonic and our favorite pick for shavers that offer a close shave.

The Arc5 costs slightly more than the Arc4 and doesnā€™t come with a clean and charge station like the previous model.

Specifications
  • Motor that runs up to 14,000 CPM.
  • Multi-flex pivoting head.
  • 70000 cross-cutting per minute.
  • Power adjust technology.
  • Universal power adaptation capability.

Our In-Depth Review:

The Arc5 is a wonderful alternative to the Braun Series 7, despite lacking some luxurious features. It features multi-flex heads that can pivot and a motor that runs up to 14,000 cuts per minute, both of which are great for all types of hair.

Like the Series 7, it boasts a technology that adjusts the power to match the hair being trimmed, but it also offers a unique feature: foils with slit blades and reverses tapered edges that lift hairs that lay flat.

Its battery has one of the better lifespans weā€™ve come across, lasting 45 minutes on one full charge, which only takes 60 minutes. The shaver can still be used while charging, which is super handy and convenient.

It also makes up for the fact that, unlike the Series 7 and many other models weā€™ll discuss later on, it does have a quick charge option that would allow you to get a quick shave out of a 15-minute charge.

Its LCD screen is user-friendly and offers to charge information and battery life status, as well as cleaning reminders that can help you keep your shaver as hygienic as possible.

It can be used effectively under running water or dry and without any shaving gel or water, and can be washed as it is waterproof. It can be used with or without the cord, making it easy to take it into the shower or bathtub to get an irritation-free shave.

In addition, it features a slim detail trimmer that pops out of the side of the shaverā€™s head and is significantly smaller than most other trimmers, making it easier to wield.

The shaver is compatible with a variety of shaving gels and foams so users are not limited to what they can use with their new favorite shaver.

Included with the shaver itself is a cleaning brush, foil guard, charging cord, and blade oil, as well as a durable travel pouch, power adaption accessories, and a travel lock that makes travel safely.

The travel lock is reliable and a great addition to an already incredibly diverse shaver, as it ensures the safety of its user while the shaver is tucked away inside of luggage.

This also ensures that, while on a long flight or bus ride, the shaver will not be turned on the entire time and waste a charge.

Pros

  • Includes a secure travel pouch for safe travel.
  • Can simultaneously charge and shave.
  • The LCD screen with status indicators.
  • Small, precise detail trimmer.

Cons

  • No quick charge option.
  • Does not come with clean and charge station.

Conclusion:

All in all, this shaver is a great option. It’s many features make it a good choice with tons of value, however, it is quite costly so it may be a bit of an investment. It is ideal for those who travel often, as it is fully protected and for those who enjoy convenience.

3. Panasonic ARC4 – With Dual Motor

Panasonic Electric Shaver and Trimmer for Men, ES8243A ARC4, Wet/Dry with 4 Blades and Flexible Pivoting Head The Panasonic Arc4 shaver is a reliable model that has been popular since its initial release.

It features a variety of unique features that make it not only useful but modern, as well.

It is the predecessor to the Arc5 but is just as great in terms of diversity and power.

It comes with a powerful high-performance dual motor that offers 56000 cross-cutting actions per minute.

Specifications
  • The motor speed of up to 17,000 RPM.
  • 14-day battery life off of one charge.
  • Cleaning indicators.
  • 56000 cross-cutting actions per minute.
  • Nanotech blades for precise cutting.

Our In-Depth Review:

This shaver features a linear motor that runs at up to 13,000 RPM and will cut through the thickest of beards, and cleanly slice even the coarsest of hairs. Although 13,000 RPM may not sound like much, we need to keep in mind that most standard electric shavers run at 8-10,000 RPM, which means that the Arc4 is miles ahead in terms of speed.

For mornings where youā€™re running late, the shaver features a quick five-minute charge option that allows you to charge the battery enough to complete a quick touch-up within just a few minutes. After a full charge, the shaver holds enough battery life to last a full 2 weeks without needing to be charged, which, we admit, is pretty impressive.

The shaver has a clear display that indicates, using a 1-10 scale, how much battery is left so that you can charge when necessary. Regardless of how much charge the shaver has on use, it will still boast the same powerful shave, neither slowing down or pulling at any fine hairs.

The Arc4 has an LCD display that reminds you that itā€™s time to clean your electric shaver, improving lifespan and maintaining a constant level of sanitation. Included is a special mode, called ā€œTurbo Modeā€, that can be turned on when you need to get the job done quickly.

It boosts the motor to 17,000 RPM and vibrates to help remove any stubborn hair. This vibration is neither irritating or annoying; we actually found it to be quite soothing.

For convenience, the shaver is totally waterproof and can be cleaned after each use with running water.

Weā€™ve found that, for the best use, you should use circular motions when using the Arc4. You should go around the face instead of up and down.

Included alongside the shaving device itself are a power adaptor and a handy travel case. If youā€™re in need of extra accessories such as replacement blades or foils, these can be purchased separately but do not come with the shaver. This can be a bit of a pain but, as weā€™ve found, it isnā€™t that big of a deal when it comes down to it.

Pros

  • A full charge that lasts multiple uses.
  • Waterproof for use in the shower.
  • Handy reminders to clean the shaver for maximum cleanliness.
  • Quick charge feature.

Cons

  • Replacement blades must be purchased from elsewhere.

Conclusion:

The Panasonic Arc4 is a great example of a high-quality shaver at an affordable price. This particular shaver gives you the best possible shave without a ton of fancy features and bells and whistles that youā€™ll never use, saving you a great deal of cash. This shaver is simple, sleek, and does the job well.

4. Braun Series 9 – With 5 Shaving Elements

Braun Electric Razor for Men/Electric Shaver, Series 9 9293s Electric Razor for Men, Travel Case with Charging Stand, Rechargeable & Cordless, Wet & Dry, Pop Up Trimmer, Premium Chrome Cordless Razor One of Braunā€™s many electric shavers, the Series 9 is a quality razor that boasts the reliability that Braun users have come to expect.

Itā€™s a simple shaver that, despite being a pretty basic model, is loved by millions and continues to be a popular choice.

It comes with the quick charge technology that would give you one shave on 5 minutes of charge.

Specifications
  • Sonic and AutoSense technology.
  • 10-D contour adaptation capability.
  • 5 shaving elements.
  • LED display.
  • Wet and dry compatible.

Our In-Depth Review:

As a model in the Series 9 line, you can expect to receive a high-quality, reliable shaver with the purchase of the Series 9 9293S. The ā€œsā€ in the shaverā€™s name implies that the model is a very basic device, lacking the additional cleaning station that many of Braunā€™s shavers come with.

Initially, this can be off-putting, but for someone who enjoys simplicity, this shouldnā€™t be a problem as the shaver is still pretty easy to clean – even by hand.

It uses a special SyncroSonic technology that allows the shaver to cut at a rate of 40,000 cross-cutting actions every minute. This technology effectively adjusts to your beard, frequently running density checks 136 times a minute and, as a result, adjusting its power to match the hairā€™s density.

The head is flexible in 10 directions, with its floating shaving elements adapting to the contours of the skin. In total there are 4 cutting elements and one skin guard that protects the skin from irritation while shaving. The shaving head also features 2 highly specialized trimmers -Hyperlift & Cut and Direct & Cut- that are coated with titanium and use Opti-Foil to achieve a close shave.

After youā€™ve found the perfect position for the shaver head, you can lock it in place with the MultiHeadLock system. We found this feature particularly useful in hard to reach areas where a steady blade was critical.

When using this shaver, the rubberized grip zone and its textured surface come in handy, making it easy to grip when in the shower or bath. This being said, this handy shaver is also fully waterproof, which makes both shaving and cleaning easy.

Its waterproof capability is relevant in the water of up to 5 meters deep, which will probably never apply to you but is still a fun fact.

When it comes to charging, the 9293s lacks a charge and clean station. However, the fact that the shaver comes with a charging stand in its place is pretty great. Not only does it ensure that your shaver never runs out of battery, but it also saves space on the countertop.

The battery is a Li-Ion battery that can recharge within 50-60 minutes and then run for 50 minutes before needing another charge. The LED display keeps track of how long is left of charging time, but it also gives an indicator as to when the travel lock is turned on, as well as battery status.

Pros

  • Easy to read LED screen that shows charging status.
  • Textured handle for a secure grip.
  • Flexible head.
  • It can be used wet and dry.

Cons

  • Does not include a clean & charge station.

Conclusion:

On the pricier side of things, the 9293s is worth every penny. Its simple design and powerful features meld seamlessly to offer both the latest technology and old-time appeal. It is ideal for every user regardless of hair type and is gentle on all types of skin. Overall, it was one of the most solid contenders for ā€œbest shaverā€ that made it onto our list.

5. Panasonic Hybrid – With Japanese Blade Technology

Panasonic Hybrid Wet Dry Shaver, Trimmer & Detailer with Two Adjustable Trim Attachments, Pop-up Precision Detail Trimmer & Shave Sensor Technology - Cordless Razor for Men - ES-LL41-K (Black) The Panasonic hybrid is a cordless hybrid shaver and trimmer that is sold on the menā€™s haircare market.

It effectively combines a trimmer, shaver, and detailing device all in one handy tool, eliminating the need to buy separate, expensive hair care tools.

The shaver is high-powered and reliable.

Specifications
  • 13,000 CPM linear motor.
  • Smart shave sensor technology.
  • Comb attachments.
  • LED battery status indicator.

Our In-Depth Review:

This shaver is powered by a linear motor that runs at 13,000 CPM, giving users a quick, hassle-free shave. It features three precision blades that cleanly slice through even the densest, coarse hair. One blade is ideal for everyday shaving, the second for trimming, and the third for precisely capturing detail.

Both the precision trimmer and detail blades are pop up-style, making them convenient to use. The detailed blade, however, is positioned at a 45-degree angle that maximizes the efficiency of the ultra-sharp point.

The shaver is cordless and, while shaving, offers users the luxury of making use of built-in smart sensors that can recognize the density differences of individual beards.

These sensors adjust the motor power to fit the job, moving it faster for thicker areas and more slowly and carefully for thinner, more sparse areas such as the neck. Despite sounding pretty fancy, we found that we forgot that this awesome feature was even included and that our shaves were even all around (probable thanks to this feature!).

The shaver comes with two clip-on comb attachments that can provide up to 7 different trim lengths, attaching onto the main shaver head and allowing you to gradually increase the trim length by 1mm increments.

The attachments come in two sizes, one being a 1-3 mm for clean, close shaves, and the other being a 5-7mm for full styles. To make things even easier, the shaver can be used in the shower or bathtub and can be fully submerged in water without suffering any damage.

It can also be washed under running water, which we found to be particularly useful on full-shave days where the shaver was prone to clogging. Alternatively, the shaver can be used totally dry without shave foam, gel, or water.

Maintenance of this shaver is simple: all you have to do is rinse it under clean water after each use and remember to charge it using the included AC adapter. Charging the shaver only takes an hour and once fully charged, you get a 50-minute shave.

To ensure that your shaver never runs out of battery, it boasts an LED battery status indicator that tells you when itā€™s time to charge your Panasonic shaver. Worried that your shaver will start to run out of power, slowing gearing down as you use it as it runs out of battery? Donā€™t worry – this didnā€™t happen to us and wonā€™t happen to you. The shaver maintains its high power until the battery is drained dry, never faltering.

Pros

  • Waterproof for easy shaving, cleaning, and maintenance.
  • Modern, highly-efficient cutting technology.
  • Smart shave sensor for effortless power adjustments.
  • Ideal for all beard types.

Cons

  • No charging station.

Conclusion:

The Panasonic hybrid is a smart option for anyone who wants a quality shaver with credibility backed by positive customer reviews and high sales. It has a plethora of modern features but the classic, no-nonsense functionality of old shaving devices. One of the best parts of this shaver, in our opinion, is the two attachments, which pretty much provide any shave length you could want.

6. Philips Norelco – Oneblade shaver

Philips Norelco OneBlade hybrid electric trimmer and shaver, FFP, QP2520/90 The OneBlade by Philips has been specially designed to suit the needs of the modern man (according to a statement from Philips).

It is a seamless combination of a trimmer, detailer, and classic shaver, making it one of Philips’s most popular models.

It is a cheap shaver that is easily affordable by everyone, but since its a one blade shaver, it won’t be able to do things that other shaver can do.

Specifications
  • Blade speed of 200x per minute.
  • 45 minutes of use on one charge.
  • Blade wear indicator.
  • Click-on comb attachments.

Our In-Depth Review:

The OneBlade, upon our unboxing, appears to be a slim, well-designed shaver. However, itā€™s green and black coloration leaves something to be desired and itā€™s actually a fairly heavy shaver, coming in at 324g. Regardless, the shaver does have its fair share of positive points that we feel are important to mention.

It uses unique rotary technology and trimmer but is neither a traditional rotary or foil shaver. What makes it different enough to avoid being lumped into either category is that it features a single blade. Despite being a long blade, it manages to move incredibly fast and get the job done in record time.

More specifically, the blade moves at a speed of 200 times per second. In order to ensure the userā€™s safety with a blade that moves this fast, Philips has protected the blade with a shield that boasts rounded plastic tips, which they call the ā€œdue protection systemā€.

The blade also features a blade wear indication system that turns green when your blade is in need of replacing.

The shaver’s head is small and dual-sided, allowing an accurate shave from any angle, which we appreciated. It also pivots to offer better control and can be quickly changed with a single push of the ā€œejectā€ button.

In addition to the simple but effective shave head, the shaver includes a number of click-on combs that are helpful for getting an even shave in hard-to-shave areas such as along the contours of the jaw or on the neck.

The bottom of the shaver boasts a charging port. This port, although located in a discreet area that seems to be genius, lacks when it comes to convenience, as it requires a shaver outlet or outlet adaptor in order to be plugged into a regular socket.

The battery of the OneBlade requires a staggering 8-hours of charge time to reach a full charge; this full charge lasts for up to 45 minutes of continuous use. When using it for morning touchups, though, you might be able to get a full 5 days worth of shaves out of one charge.

When it comes to cleaning, itā€™s easy. The OneBlade can be rinsed under running water after each use and doesnā€™t need any special solutions or bulky cleaning stations, which is a bonus. This being said, itā€™s a wet and dry device that can be used in the bathtub or shower without any risk of damage.

This makes it easy to remove hair buildup after using the detailing edge, trimming edge, or the entire blade to regress to a smooth, baby-faced look. Here, itā€™s important to note that the blade, when used on thick beards, can become clogged quite quickly, so itā€™s a good idea to go slow.

Pros

  • Suitable for wet and dry use.
  • Quick moving blade.
  • Easy to clean.
  • Dual protection system to protect user.

Cons

  • Clogs easily.
  • 8 hours to full charge.

Conclusion:

As a final verdict, weā€™d recommend this shaver for use on sparse and/or short beards, as the clogging problem is quite annoying. In terms of features and ease of use, though, itā€™s a great device, so itā€™s easy to see why it has been so successful.

7. Philips Norelco Shaver 9700 – With Aquatech Technology

Philips Norelco Electric Shaver 9700, Cleansing Brush, S9721/89 The Norelco Shaver 9700 is a convenient, user-friendly electric razor that offers its users the best of what electric shavers have to offer.

In terms of design, the shaver is nearly flawless, boasting reliable shaves and an easy-to-grip body.

If you’ve been searching for a way to lessen the burden of a lengthy morning routine, this might just be the tool you’re looking for!

Specifications
  • Multi-level, touch-activated display.
  • Contour Detect Technology.
  • 3 speeds.
  • Click-on precision trimmer.
  • Travel lock.

Our In-Depth Review:

This shaving device features a rubber grip that has been designed for optimal ergonomics; we were actually very impressed with how easy the shaver was to hold. It doesn’t slip out of the hands when it gets wet and is comfortable to grip.

It also offers a fantastic multi-level display that showcases a number of important stats including power level, whether the travel lock is on or not, when cleaning is needed, and when the blades should be replaced. In addition to being easy to read, it’s also a touch screen that is activated by the touch of a finger.

It can also be activated by simply picking up the device. This helps it to save power as well as maintain a steady battery level – without constantly needing to be plugged into the charger. Speaking of charging, the charge and clean process take around 4 hours total. Once fully charged ( within 1 hour), you get 60 minutes of shave time.

This is a pretty good trade-off, especially considering that once the cleaning process has started, you’re unable to use your shaver until it has been completed. Generally, 60 minutes will get you a few shaves at least.

The shaver uses Contour Detect Technology, allowing each of the three blades to move independently from each other in 8 different directions. These blades provide a clean-shaven as well as collect loose hair to make the cleanup process quick and easy. To remove collected hair, the shaver can be rinsed under running water after each use, but a thorough cleaning is recommended frequently.

Another thing we found particularly beneficial was the SmartClean Dock. This handy dock effectively charges, cleans, lubricates, and dries the blades to keep them in good condition. This being said, this dock does take up a considerable amount of counter space and, unfortunately, has a pretty short power cord that puts limitations on where the dock can be set up.

In relation to the shavers actually, the main function, shaving, we found that the shaver was great for unruly beards. It also fared well on small areas like sideburns thanks to the click-on precision trimmer it comes with.

It has 3 speed settings to choose from: sensitive, normal, and quick, for morning touchups. It’s compatible with any mode of shaving, including wet, dry, and with foam or shaving gel, which is always a bonus.

The SmartClick oil-control cleansing brush is a unique feature. The brush works to reduce the levels of oil on the skin while at the same time providing a relaxing end to each shave. Each cleanses lasts one minute.

Pros

  • 3 efficient speed settings to choose from.
  • Multi-purpose charging and cleaning dock.
  • Blades move independently to target every spot.
  • Short charge time.

Cons

  • Bulky charging station.

Conclusion:

Overall, we were pretty impressed with this shaver. However, it does have a bulky cleaning dock and shaving too fast will often result in missed patches of hair. Otherwise, however, it’s a great choice if you’re looking for something reliable.

8. Remington F5-5800 – With Intercept Technology

Remington F5-5800 Foil Shaver, Men's Electric Razor, Electric Shaver, Black The Remington F5-5800 shaver is one of the most highly bought after foil shavers on today’s market.

It got this following from its great features, affordable price, and no-nonsense customer support.

This shave rates up with many of Braun’s shavers but tends to come out on top of certain models.

As compared to other similar shavers, the price of the remington Foil shaver is pretty low.

Specifications
  • Intercept shaving technology.
  • Pivot and flex head.
  • Pop-up trimmer.
  • LED battery indicator.
  • Quick charge capability.

Our In-Depth Review:

The most important part of any shaver, we’re going to start by discussing this shaver’s blades. The blades on this model are made of stainless steel to prevent the development of rust and are protected by two flexible foils.

The blades are sharp enough to offer hundreds of shaves, as well as to get a close shave every time. In addition, both blades move on their own axis to better suit the contours of the jaw and neck.

Beneath the foils is Remington’s innovative intercept shaving technology; a shaving technology that sees that longer, uneven hairs are trimmed before actually being cut away.

The goal of this is to increase efficiency and avoid any pulling of hairs. We found this to be one of the best features since particularly long hairs are often missed. Even with this handy feature, though, we found it necessary to go over parts of our face more than once to ensure that the job was done.

Worried about that hard to reach area? Don’t be! This shaver’s head uses pivot and flexes technology to adjust and maintain the perfect angle to flawlessly trim even the most difficult areas.

Located on the back of the shaver is a pop-up trimmer that is designed especially for shaping and defining hair after it has been cut. This feature is one that stunned us; we’ve never before seen it on a foil shaver (or a rotary shaver, for that matter). To make things even better regarding this feature, it’s important to note that the trimmer delivers high-quality results on a consistent basis.
Unlike many models, this one does not come with a self-clean station. Why? It doesn’t really need it. Because the shaver can be used in water, it’s safe to rinse under running water in order to clean it after every use. It’s a simple design and durable blades make it a treat to maintain.

The F5-5800 has an LED indicator that warns users when their battery is running out. It also has a usage time of 60 minutes off of a 2-hour charge. It’s a quick mode, however, offers a quick 5-minute charge and just enough power to define a mustache or complete a quick, surface-level shave.

Instead of being tied to your wall outlet when using this shaver, you’re able to roam around the bathroom, check on the kids, or watch the last few minutes of a baseball game while you finish shaving. Its extreme portability and capability to be used with the cord or without makes it a fantastic choice for those with busy morning routines.

In the case of most shavers, this portability often comes at the cost of arm fatigue, as electric razors tend to be heavy. The F5-5800 weighs only a pound, making it one of the lighter models around and decreasing the chances of your arm getting tired halfway through your pre-date shave.

Pros

  • Lightweight to lessen arm fatigue.
  • Long run time.
  • Water-resistant.
  • Handy pop-up trimmer.

Cons

  • No self-clean station.

Conclusion:

After careful consideration, we highly approve and recommend this model. Sure, it has its drawbacks, but the level of performance it offers for the price asked is truly a bargain. No more tired, aching arms or uneven stubble!

9. Venyn Richor – 4 in 1 Electric Shaver

Venyn 4 In 1 Richor Rotatory Electric Shaver - Works for Wet, Dry Beard - Body Hair Trimmer - Water Resistant -Cordless Face Cleaner Designed to move with the shape of the face, this shaver is both dynamic and stylish.

In addition to being used as a shaver, it can also be considered a male beauty tool, thanks to its ingrown-hair prevention feature.

Of course, its main function is as a shaver and weā€™re firm believers that youā€™ll be more than happy to use this shaver every day.

Specifications
  • Face cleaning rotary brush.
  • Highly flexible, circular heads.
  • Heads use a 3D float system.
  • USB compatible charging technology.

Our In-Depth Review:

This Venyn shaver has been designed to deliver a smooth, sleek shave with every use. In fact, the manufacturer claims that the shave this shaver offers is the closest one youā€™ll get from a rotary shaver. Was this true? In our opinion and after a few uses, it seemed that it was.

It comes with 4 detachable rotary heads, each boasting stainless steel blades, which makes them easy to wash and dry. This being said, the main rotary shaver head that consists of 3 gentle but effective blades, quickly became one of our favorite shaving heads.

Its cut was clean and crisp, and even after a few passes of the blades (for testing purposes), there was no razor burn in sight. The head also seemed to move with the contours of the face, maneuvering easily around sensitive areas like the jaw and neck. More technically, though, this is because each blade moves independently using 3D float technology.

In addition to this shaver head, the shaver also comes with a precision trimmer, nose trimmer, and a handy rotary brush. The precision trimmer, featuring small, sharp teeth, closely resembles a traditional foil shaver and is ideal for sideburns, mustaches, and areas with small, sparse hairs.

The nose trimmer, on the other hand, was something we werenā€™t expecting. However, it was unique and for what itā€™s worth, the trimmer was designed well. Itā€™s small enough to comfortably access the inside of the nose as well as gentle, as to not cause discomfort. The rotary brush is the 4th detachable head.

Itā€™s not a shaver, but more so an aftercare tool. Itā€™s used on the skin after shaving to carefully exfoliate to prevent ingrown hairs and any discomfort that sensitive skin may experience from a general shave.

Aside from the obvious features, this model also includes a number of extras. For example, it is incredibly convenient thanks to its cordless usage capabilities.

When it comes to charging, the shaver can last for up to one week between charges and, when necessary, the shaver can be charged from the car or on the go through a standard USB connection. This makes it easy to ensure that you get a shave every morning – even if youā€™re running late.

For cleaning, the various heads can be washed with running water. Itā€™s important to note, though, that the body of the shaver should not be submerged in water. Regardless of this, the shaver can still be used dry or wet.

Although this shaver has a ton of benefits and great features, its drawback comes when the shaverā€™s power is discussed. The shaver works well for a variety of shaving purposes but doesnā€™t have the most power, which can make it a bit more difficult to tame unruly tangles of hair.

Pros

  • 4 attachments.
  • Rotary brush to prevent ingrown hair.
  • Stylish design.
  • Quiet when in use.

Cons

  • Needs semi-regular charging.
  • Low power.

Conclusion:

After using this shaver for a while, it became quite clear to us why itā€™s so popular. However, it also became glaringly clear why so many users opt for more powerful shavers. Regardless, for the price, this shaver has all the bells and whistles.

10. Philips Norelco 8900 – With V-Track Precesion Blades

Philips Norelco Electric Shaver 8900, Wet & Dry Edition S8950/91 Upon first glance, the Norelco 8900 seems to be one of many uninteresting shavers. Upon closer inspection, itā€™s easy to spot the differences between this model and other models.

What makes this model great?

Itā€™s modern features that include some of the most up to date technologies. Because this shaver comes from Philips, a staple household name for many men, itā€™s safe to say that itā€™s a quality device.

Specifications
  • Aquatic technology.
  • Flexible shave heads.
  • SmartClick beard styler.
  • LED display panel.

Our In-Depth Review:

The Philips Norelco 8900 provides users with a clean shave when used wet or dry, which is something we can appreciate. It makes use of aquatic technology, which is designed to prevent the blades from tugging and/or skipping when used on the skin.

This technology is ideal for men who suffer from particularly stubborn facial hair. In addition, this model also features contour detect technology that ensures a smooth, clean shave on curved surfaces like the jawline and neck.

The shaving heads of this model are able to move in 8 different directions, allowing them to cut, on average, 20% more hair with each pass of the blades.

The blades are self-sharpening, which we found to be a small but highly-useful luxury. The fact that the blades sharpen themselves and are virtually always sharp and ready to go means that the shaver can get 30% closer than its competitors.

Another great feature of this model is the SmartClick beard styler. This handy tool is a detachable shaving head with a straight edge and high power. It has 5 settings that control length, letting you choose how close you want the cut. This headā€™s tips are rounded to prevent skin irritation, making it ideal for those with sensitive skin.

Delving into the appearance of this shaver, the first two words that come to mind are ā€œmasculineā€ and ā€œsleekā€. The shaverā€™s body is designed to fit the ergonomics of the average male hand but is also surprisingly lightweight considering all of the technology and large battery packed inside. It weighs roughly 1 pound, eliminating arm and muscle fatigue during use.

Once charged, the battery can hold up to 50 minutes of continuous use – thatā€™s a few full shaves or many quick, 5-minute touch-ups.

As far as looks are concerned, this model is sleek yet masculine at the same time. Ergonomically suited for the average male hand, the Philips Norelco Electric Shaver is easy to grip and even easier to wield. For those with vision problems or who appreciate a good indicator system, this model is highly appealing because of its bright, LED display.

On the display, users can find battery status information and head replacement recommendations. They can also see when the travel lock is engaged. Speaking of a travel lock, this model features an effective travel lock that prevents unnecessary wear to the blades because, despite common belief, it isnā€™t uncommon for shavers to turn on during transport.

Pros

  • Ergonomically designed to suit the userā€™s hand.
  • Fully charges in one hour.
  • 50 minute use time.
  • Good for sensitive skin.

Cons

  • Rotary heads need frequent replacement and maintenance.

Conclusion:

When compared to other models, the Philips Norelco Electric Shaver 8900 Model S8950/91 fares well in terms of style and power, as well as bonus features. This being said, itā€™s a pretty simple model, as it lacks Philipsā€™ popular SmartClean dock and will need to be cleaned manually instead. All in all, though, it seems to be a good option for almost anyone who has a beard, sideburns, or a mustache that needs to be groomed.

Electric Shavers – Buyer’s Guide

Man using electric shaverWe recommend everyone who is looking to get a electric shver to read this buyers gudie.

It will help you understand how the electric shavers work, what are the features you must be looking for and in the end, we have also answered some of the faqs.

How do electric shavers work?

Have you ever wondered about how electric shavers work?

Sure they trim your beard every day but have you ever wondered about the technology behind them.

We are well aware of the fact that electric shaver is a great invention for men who can’t spare a lot of time every morning for a shave or to create those fine cuts while trimming.

Electric shavers as compared to the normal shaving blades use a cutting mechanism that creates a scissor-like action that cuts the hairs that comes in contact without the blade touching the skin.

The blades in the electric shaver do not make a direct connection with the skin which prevents any kind of irritation on the skin.

Now if you are wondering how this scissors-like blade works, they work along with the motor places inside the shaver that runs on electricity or on the battery that could be recharged by the battery.

TheĀ  benefits of buying an Electric Razor

man shaving in front of the mirrorWell, apart from them being safe as compared to the regular razors, they are time-saving.

They say Time is money and we can’t agree to more to it.

With the schedule getting busier day by day, its tough for people to go to a barbershop to daily. And in that case, a shave can be your best friend.

It comes with an ergonomic grip, has quick and easy operations and is much safer as compared to standard shaving.

Types of shavers

Foil shavers

Electric foil shaver

Foil shavers are basically for them who occasionally like to do close shave, something that would feel like doing from a razor blade.

They are called as foil shavers because the blades on these shavers are covered with thin metal sheets of foil that have tiny holes in them.

The hairs enter through these holes and oscillating blades behind the foils move back and forth to cut the hairs.

As compared to the other types you get a more precise and gentle shave. Gentler because the foil pulls the hair into the shaver and then cuts them without pulling.

As compared to the rotatory shaver this is fast too. The rotatory shaver takes some time to move across the face while the foil shaver just moves from one side to another quickly.

But not everything is good in the foil shaver. One of the biggest disadvantages with this type of shavers is that they can only work in straight lines, circular motion like rotatory shaver is not possible.

Rotatory shavers

rotatory shaverThe rotatory shaver is the shaver that comes with multiple shaving heads.

There are some lines in these shavers that allow the hairs to pass through the opening, and from there the hairs are cut as close as possible to the skin.

The best thing about the rotatory shavers is that they can be moved in a circular motion which makes them easy to be used on tricky areas like neck, chin, and jawline.

Some of the great advantages of the rotatory shavers are:

  • Works great for thick and wild hairs.
  • Works great for long hairs.
  • Much quieter as compared to the foil shavers.
  • Works fine on rough skin.

Facial hairs are the ultimate deciding factor

What type of shave would work best for you depends on the type of hair you have.

For medium hairs, a dual foil shaver would be a better option.

For coarse hairs or a little sensitive skin, a triple foil rotatory shaver would be the best. These types of shavers usually work best with other types of hairs too.

However, if you have a light beard then you would do fine with a single foil shaver.

Plugged in vs Corded shavers

There are three types of electric shavers mainly:

  • Ones that run on batteries (AA batteries etc).
  • Ones that come with rechargeable batteries.
  • Ones that run on direct supply.

Out of all the three we only recommend users to use the batteries that run on rechargeable batteries. But these shavers too, make sure you fully charge them so that they do not die in the mid of the shave.

For the other two types, we do not think they are completely unreliable, but still, since you can not control a power cut for the shavers that run on direct supply and for the shavers that run on AA batteries, you can not check the juice left on those batteries, you can not be sure if your next shave would complete without any issues.

The shavers with rechargeable battery on the other hand usually have an LED indicator on them that will let you know how much battery is left on the shaver.

Wet vs Dry electric shavers

Not all the shavers are compatible with a wet shave, so if you are one of those people who like to shave in the shower then you must go with the shavers that support wet shaving.

While using wet/dry shavers there is a number of things that you need to keep in mind:

  1. These types of shavers do not operate when plugged in since people can try to use them in shower plugged in and that could not be safe.
  2. Now all wet/dry electric shavers allow using gel and creams with them. Some of the shavers come with cleaning and charging units and those units can take damage with the creams and gels.

Electric Shavers replacement blades

Like any other shaver or razor, the electric shavers need blade replacement too.

Over time, with usage, the blade and foil with start wearing out and that would need a replacement.

When buying a razor, enquire if the shaver some with an extra set of blades and foil, or rotatory heads in case of electric shavers.

Also, enquire about where to find the replacement units in the market. We would also recommend checking the price of the replacement just to be sure that they would not be too expensive.

Manual cleaning vs Cleaning charging units

An electric shave should be hygienic so that it does not cause any infection. As a rule of thumb, you should clean the shaver after a single usage.

The cleaning method differs from shaver to shaver.

Most of the shavers need manual cleaning. You need to take the cleaning brush and clean the shaver by moving the brush in different directions. This process is easier in the foil razors as compared to the rotatory ones, but you also need to be careful about the foil protecting the blade.

Some of the more advanced high-end shavers come with own cleaning cum charging stations that automatically cleans the shaver when places on top of it. You can set the level of cleaning depending on how dirty the shaver is.

Best brands

Razor ShaverAccording to us, Panasonic, Norelco, and Braun are the best shaver brands in the market.

Among all the three, Braun is one that mainly focuses on creating grooming products like shavers, toothbrushes, etc.

Panasonic and Philips, on the other hand, are full-fledged electronics brands that produce most of the electronic products in the market.

Its not like one brand is better than the other brand. All three brands are great, and we have listed their best shavers in this buyer’s guide.

How much should I invest

Good electric shavers are expensive, we won’t lie about that.

And with expensive we don’t mean a couple of hundred dollars, but still, you need to spend on average 100+ dollars to get a good electric shaver.

Although you can get some trimmers like Norelco one blade at a lower price, the functionalities these types of trimmers offer are very low.

Features to look for

AccessoriesBlade replacementEase of CleaningEasy to gripMobilityLED displayPower source
There are not a lot of accessories that come along with a trimmer, but you still need to see if the one you are going to come with necessary accessories or not, travel bag being on of the important accessory.

If you travel a lot, then the chances are that you would like to take your electric shave with you. But to do that your electric shaver must come with a travel case.

Another important accessory that you must look out for is a cleaning brush.

Every time to grooming unit, be it a shaver, a trimmer, or a razor, there would be ultimately a need to replace the blade.

So you need to check if your shaver comes with secondary blades or not, that could be used when the first one becomes useless.

If the unit does not come with an external blade, then you need to check how easy it is to find a replacement unit in the market.

One big advantage of buying a shaver from a popular brand is the easy availability of the blades and other accessories.

An unhygienic razor can cause some infections and irritations to your skin so it is important for the shaver to allow easy cleaning.

Some of the shavers allow cleaning through the brush, while some of the shavers come with their own cleaning charging station that cleans the shaver once you place it on the station.

This one is easy. The shaver should offer great handling so that it does not slip from your hand while shaving.

This will not only prevent any damage to the shaver but will also save you from any injury.

The shavers come in various shapes and sizes. You can choose the one that fits best in your hands.

The ability to shave while moving around is what we mean by mobility.

Usually, all rechargeable shavers are mobile, but not the corded ones.

If you can not compromise with the mobility, do not choose the corded shavers.

LED display might sound like a very small feature to have in an electric shaver but it is actually an important add on.

It shows the battery percentage so that you know when its time to recharge it.

This would make sure that the shaver never gets discharged in mid of a shave.

Apart from the shaves that run on rechargeable batteries, there are also corded shavers that run directly on the power supply, and the shavers that run on non-rechargeable batteries.

We only recommend getting the shavers that come with rechargeable batteries AKA Plug-in shavers. All the shavers on our list are plug-in shavers.

The Good and The Bad and The Ugly

rotatory shave headNew shavers in the starting can feel like a bad experience, you have to give it a few days or a few shaves to start feeling good.

But that’s about the good shavers.

The majority of the cheap electric shavers won’t feel good the skin ever. They won’t cause any rashes or irritation, but they won’t feel soft either.

Not all the shavers can be used in the showers, that’s the bad part about them. Although most of the good shaver, that just means you can rinse them under running water, you can not use them in the shower.

If you are planning to use them in the shower, then make sure that you are getting a wet/dry shower.
